[RX-7 vs 3000 GT] Which to choose?

Well, I called the car dealer, got some interesting news for myself. The RX-7 has 140, 000 on the motor, so that car is out of the picture (I was hoping that it was on the body, with the engine being less).

Krassian, so you've got about 7500 to 8000 to spend? Do you need the vehicle right away? or could you wait a bit?

If I were you, I'd take either of these courses of action:

If you need it right away, consider taking a trip. There are lots of trusted importers around, and you'll be able to find out lots of good information on all of them. If you've got 8000.00 to spend, I'd personally consider this: Supra
6500.00 non-turbo and automatic - so that's likely a negative, but you're still over 200 Hp with that guy, and under 100,000 K. You could fly out to Edmonton, and drive back with a sweet car, for mucho under 8K.
There certainly are deals out there, I know that Dah_Hunter currently has a WRX/RA for about 8K etc. There may be decent cars in decent shape out there, but I don't know.. I'd consider taking a trip though, if the car was priced right. Dah Hunter's Celsior was 3,000 or something silly, had heated massaging seats and only 125K on it.. Yeah, I'd take a trip for that!

If you don't NEED it right away and can wait a month to two, then get someone looking for you. With 8,000 you should be able to get almost anything you want through auction. Seriously.

Keep us updated on your search, if you do pick an importer let us know, because there are some that are more expensive out there, and that would be a shame.

Krassian IMHO you should wait it out and do more research about these cars and make sure you're getting a good example.

For your budget you could really do better mileage and condition wise. When it comes to 15 year old cars there's more bad cars than good cars out there.

Krassian: We have the same problem.

I have about the same budget you do. The problem we face is that Montreal is no longer a reliable source for JDM cars because the Quebec government likes to ruin everything they touch. If you go through the brokers on this site they all exclusively ship their cars to Vancouver which means spending $1000+ to get it shipped to Ontario.

With a budget of $8000 you can't spend more than $3000 on the car at auction because it will cost you at least $5000 to get it shipped from Japan to Ontario. Flying out west and driving it home would cost me a fortune in gas/flights and it would use up my limited vacation time.

Many of the cars you are looking at have already been sold. Japan General Motors sold the low mileage white RX7. JDM SKyline and JDM Montreal both sold the last Supras they had in stock. Sunrise JDM has some high mileage cars left but nothing note-worthy. None of these companies intends on importing more cars because they can't sell them in Quebec. Of the 15 Montreal JDM importers I know of, none of them have a decent low-mileage standard transmission RX7 or Supra.

Toronto JDM is BRUTAL. There is hardly any JDM importers down there. DelcoreGlobal looks very sketchy and all their cars are high mileage. I don't understand how a city with so many people in it has so few JDM importers!

Ottawa JDM sucks equally. There is two importers here and neither of them impress AT ALL. JapanpowerInc has a horrible reputation and their cars are horrendously overpriced. The other JDM "dealer" (I use the term loosely) in Ottawa is called JDMSpeedline and his reputation is non-existant. He made a impression with most of the JDM crowd on these forums. He doesn't respond to any of my emails or phone calls.

So basically: JDM Ontario is a shit show. I think our best option is to all book a container through Steve at Sastrad and have it shipped to Montreal.

I've owned a 3000GT VR4 for many years, do not buy, too complicated, gas pig, not as much fun to drive by far as a WRX. RX7, motor explodes if you mod it at all, many people can't fit into them, great to look at, horror to own.

WRX, most fun to drive, cheapest, good milage, fast, its the natural choice.

Even though It used to be my favorite car and the once that I owned never had problems, I have to agree. If you can get you hands on a decent gc8 with no gear grind/nudge you will be much better off.
